2003 History of the Royal Navy Crown Collection
In 2003 the British Channel Islands issued an silver proof crown coin collection commemorating the History of the Royal Navy.
Each coin has a different scene which portrays a historically important time or event in its history. Each coin also features on its reverse a coloured White Ensign flag.

History of the Royal Navy
King Alfred the Great is traditionally recognised as the founder of the British Royal Navy. We will not attempt to recount a complete history here of the Royal Navy, the coins themselves will denote most to the most important waypoints.

The White Ensign - Flag
This is worn by all HM Ships in commission and by shore establishments. Some Civilian authorities with Naval connections have been granted permission to use it in special circumstances. Before 1864 the Fleet comprised 3 Squadrons using the Red, White and Blue Ensigns respectively. The present design dates from 1801.
