Rare Sighting of Stockport Tram in Blackpool
Trams first ran along Lytham Road Blackpool in about 1895, and stopped in 1961. The writer can remember them even though he is still only 29. This is an unusual sighting of a rare visitor, a Stockport tram, on the back of a low-loader lorry, taken in June 2002. Actually trams still do run along Lytham Road, but only for one block from Manchester Square to the old Blackpool Council tram sheds near the Coliseum (now Kwik Save), but they used to run all along the entire length of Lytham Road to Squire's Gate Lane. The tram lines are still in place under the surface, and can occasionally be seen when there are road works or resurfacing.
