Domitian
T. Flavius Domitianus Augustus was born at Rome in 51 A.D., the younger son of Vespasian. He was proclaimed Caesar in 69 after the fall of Vitellius, but was kept away from public affairs for most of his reign. In 81, on the death of Titus, he was proclaimed Emperor. Although he enacted a number of useful laws, and his reign was better than expected, he was a cruel tyrant. After a campaign in 83, he assumed the name Germanicus. He was assassinated on September 18th 96 by Stephanus, on the instructions of his wife Domitia and others.
