Accuracy & Timekeeping
Chronometers are watches which have been thoroughly tested for the accuracy of their timekeeping.
We will includes more information about chronometer testing later, but suffice it to say that Rolex Chronometers are high quality, reliable and accurate watches.
We must stress, however, that any modern quartz watch will keep better time than even the very best mechanical watches. If you are seeking accurate timekeeping, you should buy a quartz watch rather than a mechanical one.

Why Buy A Rolex?
It's a question we ask ourselves. Why and how did Rolex achieve their reputation and desirability? Undoubtedly over a long period of time, they have produced high quality watches, but so have many other watch manufacturers, Swiss and otherwise. They were, we understand, the first to develop and market a highly water resistant case, and their distinctive "Oyster" range is often considered to be almost synonymous with the name Rolex itself.
Decades ago, from old adverts we have seen, we believe Rolex used to be good value. Although they were never cheap, they offered good quality in relation to their cost. Since the advent of the modern quartz watch, it has not been possible for mechanical watches to compete in value terms with quartz ones. The Swiss failed to develop quartz watches, and the Japanese took over and dominated the market, almost destroying the Swiss watch industry. The Swiss fought back, and although there is now a thriving Swiss quart watch industry, the more traditional manufacturers went upmarket, and repositioned their brands as luxury items, with prices to match. Make a thing expensive enough automatically creates exclusivity, and desirability. We would compare buying a Rolex with buying a Rolls Royce. There are better cars, depending on the purpose, but the Rolls Royce name still carries a prestigious cachet.

Rolex Robberies
An interesting development in recent years has been the increase in the UK, and presumably elsewhere, of the "Rolex Robbery". Wealthy people have been targeted in the street, outside and inside their homes, and their personal possessions snatched. This usually includes their watch. Often, but not always, this is a Rolex, but the press have coined the phrase "Rolex Robbery" to describe this type of crime.
