1986 Royal Mint Silver Medallion
Commemorating 1100 Years in Minting
Struck in 1986 to commemorate the Royal Mint's 1100 years in minting.
On one side the medal features the Royal Mint's Arms, originally granted during the reign of Queen Elizabeth !, with the inscription:
COMMEMORATING ELEVEN HUNDRED YEARS IN MINTING
The other side bears the portrait of Alfred the Great taken fromthe now famous London monogram penny, alongside the portrait of Her Majesty the Queen taken from a 1986 penny. Below is the London monogram from the reverse of the Alfred penny and above the Roayl Mint Llantrisant mark - a cross crosslet fitchy.
The 100 year medal weighs 148.4 grammmes and has a diameter of 63mm. It has been struck in sterling (.925) silver, with an issue limit of 1,100.
