Kiribati Coins
Kiribati was previously known as the Gilbert Islands. Discovered in 1537, a British Protectorate from 1892, independent since 1979. The coins of Kiribati are mainly commemoratives, but are notable for their clean simple but effective designs.
Links with Samoa - Or is it a Split?
In 1998, Kiribati and Samoa, which was previously known as Western Samoa, jointly issued a two-part coin.
