Galleons, Sickles and Knuts
Coming soon to a coin dealer near you!
Actually we already have them in stock. Galleons, Sickles and Knuts, the famous and magical coins from the Harry Potter books and film, are now available. We have had to journey halfway to Hogwarts and back just to get them.
Galleons
The golden galleons are the largest of the three coins. They are gold coloured, but may be transformed into real gold by the judicious use of the correct spell. Isn't it the Philosopher's Stone which is supposed to turn base metal into gold?
Sickles
The silver sickles are the middle sized coin, and although ours are, of course, not real silver, you may be able to transform them into real silver with the appropriate spell or a little alchemy.
Knuts
We always worry about getting the spelling right on these. Of course spells and spelling are very important in the magical world of Harry Potter. Knuts are the smallest coin and are copper or bronze coloured.
Latest News
We have just (6th December 2001) managed to obtain a supply. These are coming to us from Gringott's Bank, who tell us they are hoping to ship them to us on Monday 10th December, so we can expect them to arrive here on Wednesday 12th December, providing they don't get stuck on platform 93/4 en route. We will be packing orders and translocating them the same day, so there is just about time for them to reach you for Christmas.
News Update - 2002
Because of the huge demand for Harry Potter coins around the time of the release of the first film in 2001, we have ensured that we have stocked up on supplies in 2002, and expect to be able to meet fresh demand created by the release of the new film Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.

Movie Mistakes
On of our favourite websites is "Movie-Mistakes", and some sharp-eyed film-goer has already spotted a mistake relating to the coins in the movie.
Currency Conversions
According to CNN the exchange rate between US Dollars and Knuts on Thursday 6th December 2001 at 18.53 GMT was:-
1 US Dollar = 3 sickles and 15 knuts
According to our reckoning, this would make £1 = 5 sickles and 3 knuts.

Harry Potter Films
We were amused to see that the first Harry Potter film had two different titles. In Britain it is called Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, accurately reflecting the name of the book, but for the American market some film company executive decided that it should be called Harry Potter and the Sorceror's Stone. It always intrigues us why film companies feel the need to change the title, and often almost the entire content of a book when they produce a film version of it. Is this because they think that they know better than the original author, in which case why don't they write their own books or films from scratch. I suspect the answer would be that they are so lacking in talent and imagination that they would be unable to create anything comparable. One other possible reason is that they believe their potential audience is so unintelligent that they have to be presented with shorter or more familiar words in the title, or a happier ending. While there may be an element of truth here, we think most filmgoers should protest at the insult to their intelligence. The most effective protest would be to boycott any film which deviates substantially from the book upon which it is based.

Don't Ask - Just Order!
We always give priority to orders. At peak times it's sometimes all we can manage to keep up with demand, in which case enquiries get left until we have time to deal with them. If you are not sure whether we will be able to supply in time, the best action is to send us your order as soon as possible. If you really need to know, it's better to phone us than e-mail.
