Diana
Diana was the daughter of Jupiter and Latona, and the twin sister of Apollo. As he was associated with the day and the sun, so she was associated with night-time and the moon. She was also regarded as the goddess of the hunt, protectress of the young and of slaves, and a bearer of light. She was also the patroness of virginity and childbirth, which would appear at first to be mutually exclusive.
She was known to the Greeks as Artemis, there being a famous temple to her honour at Ephesus, and also Astyren, Klaria, and Tyche Gerason.
Her attributes include a stag, antelope, doe, lighted torch, bow, arrow, quiver, crescent moon, bulls, hound dog, spear, wild boar, and horse.
On coins of Gallienus the inscription "DIANAE CONS AUG" stands for "DIANAE CONSERVATRIX AUGUSTI", showing her as the protector of the Emperor.
