Finland
The Finns moved into Finland, probably from the Volga basin, in the seventh century, displacing the Lapps. It was conquered by Sweden in the twelfth century. In 1809m Sweden was conqurered by Russia, and Finland was given to Russia under the peace terms, becoming a Grand Duchy within the Russian Empire. In 1917, shortly after the Bolshevik revolution, Finnland declared its independence. After a brief civil war, a new constitution was adopted, and Finnland was established as a republic. Soviet Russian trops invaded Finland in 1939 over disputed territorial concessions, which were later granted to Russia in 1940. After the Germans invaded Russia, Finland lost the Petsamo area to Russia in the 1944 Armistice arrangements.
According to the CIA's website:
Finland was a province and then a grand duchy under Sweden from the 12th to the 19th centuries and an autonomous grand duchy of Russia after 1809. It won its complete independence in 1917. During World War II, it was able to successfully defend its freedom and resist invasions by the Soviet Union - albeit with some loss of territory. In the subsequent half century, the Finns made a remarkable transformation from a farm/forest economy to a diversified modern industrial economy; per capita income is now on par with Western Europe. A member of the European Union since 1995, Finland was the only Nordic state to join the euro system at its initiation in January 1999.
Coins of Finland

It switched over to the euro in 2002, with the other eleven original eurozone members. although unlike some of the members, started minting and dating its coins euro from 1999.
