Royal Mint Modern Issues
Each year since 1970, the Royal Mint has produced special editions of coin sets for collectors, which are also ideal as gifts. We are now expecting our allocation of the 2000 United Kingdom coin sets, direct from the Royal Mint, which we offer for sale at the official Royal Mint issue price. Once the Mint have sold out, prices can fluctuate.

Year 2000 Coin Sets

There are four variations of the 2000 coin sets available:

• Nine Coin Uncirculated Set
  Contains the eight circulating coins, from the Two Pounds down to the Penny, plus the extra Fifty Pence, but please note they do not contain the Crown.
  Although not struck to the same standards as the proof coins, these coins are also specially examined and selected before packaging. They are all superior to the mass produced coins which are made for circulation because of the absence of bag marks and scratches.
  They are also packaged in a colourful attractive and informative folder.
• Ten Coin Proof Sets
  "Proof" coins are specially struck with great care and attention. The dies are highly polished on the flat surfaces, with a frosted finish on the design, the blanks from which the coins are struck are also polished before striking (minting), so that the finished coins show their designs to the absolutely best effect. The raised relief parts of the design have a frosted finish, and stand out from the background (field) which has a mirror finish. Each coin is carefully inspected prior to packaging, and is guaranteed to be perfect and without any blemish.
  This years proof sets contain:
  The new Year 2000 Millennium Five Pounds Crown
  The special Fifty Pence Coin to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Public Libraries Act of 1850.
  The Welsh Dragon pound coin.
  The other seven circulating coins, £2, 50 pence, 20 pence, 10 pence, 5 pence, 2 pence, and 1 penny.

• Standard Proof Set
  All superbly packaged in a newly designed plastic case, and housed within an attractive wallet.
• De-Luxe Proof Set
  As the above Proof Set, but with a booklet, and housed in a completely redesigned presentation pack.
  The presentation of the deluxe set is rather clever. The coins themselves are housed in plastic pack which is mounted in an outer frame. The coin set can be rotated within the frame so that either side of the coins can be viewed.
  The frame features its own built in retractable stand, so that it can stand freely by itself on a shelf, mantelpiece, cabinet or desk. It also has a ready made "keyhole" slot at the top back, so that it can be hung on a wall.
  Below the coins there is a space to accept one of a number of pre-printed cards, all of which are headed:-
  "UNITED KINGDOM DELUXE PROOF COIN COLLECTION"
  One of the cards is left blank apart from this title, but the rest have the following messages:-
  "Celebrating Baby's Birth" "Celebrating Baby's Christening" "Celebrating Your Retirement" "Celebrating Your Birthday" "Celebrating Your 18th Birthday" "Celebrating Your 21st Birthday" "Celebrating Your Graduation" "Celebrating Your Wedding" "Celebrating Your Wedding Anniversary" "Celebrating Your Silver Wedding Anniversary" "Celebrating Your Golden Wedding Anniversary"

  As you can tell, the Royal Mint has tried to cover most of life's special occasions, with a total of 12 different personalisation options.

• Executive Proof Set - Reduced Price!
  As the above Proof Sets, but with a booklet, and housed in a completely redesigned presentation pack, with space for personal mementoes.
  The executive proof set sold out at the Royal Mint without ever going on open sale. It was then followed by delays while the supplier of the new packaging design tried to iron out problems. We managed to get a very small supply, 20 sets, which we are happy to offer at less than the original official issue price of £69.95
• Millennium Proof Silver Collection
  Contains all nine denominations, from £5 Crown down to Penny, as above but with only the definitive version of the Fifty Pence, so no Library Commemorative version, complete with the four Maundy coins, fourpence, threepence, twopence and penny. All in proof finish.
  Complete in impressive royal blue velvet covered case.

2000 Millennium Crown
This is being produced in a number of different versions, details on our 2000 Millennium Crown page.
The selected Uncirculated Specimen version should be available at the end of January, packaged in an attractive folder.
An ordinary uncirculated mass-produced version will be available from banks and post offices at its face value of £5
