In 1986, the United States of America started issuing a one ounce silver version of their one ounce gold eagle bullion coin. These bullion coins were produced primarily as an investment product, that could be sold at relatively low premiums over their intrinsic metal content.
The United States of America also produced proof coins to target the collectors market.
American Eagle Silver Proof Coins
The Silver Proof version is the same design as the bullion version but is packaged in a blue velvet, satin-lined presentation case and comes with a certificate of authenticity.
