China started issuing one ounce silver bullion coins with a panda design in 1983 using silver with a purity of 99.9%.
The concept of the one ounce bullion coin was to provide an easy way to purchase convenient small quantities of bullion silver in the form of coins.
They have also issued other sizes such as five ounce versions, starting in 1987, although 2003 is the first year we have stocked these. These are proof only, not uncirculated, so naturally they are more expensive.
Additionally, the new five ounce coins, like the one ounce versions, are an attractive design, made to appeal to collectors.
The denomination, or face value, is fifty Yuan.

Obverse
The obverse of the panda coins features the very beautiful Temple of Heaven building in Beijing.

Reverse
Most years the panda coin features a different panda design, making these a very interesting and collectable coin. Strangely in 2002 year they retained the previous year's design. We do not know why, but for 2003 there is another new design, adding to the attraction and collectability.
