Our unofficial source tells us that the 2001 proof gold Britannias will have a different finish this year. This has now been officially confirmed, but we are still awaiting high quality images from the Royal Mint.
Matt Finish
The latest information we have is that the obverse will be an all matt finish, while the reverse will retain the more usual design with the raised parts in matt finish and the field or background in polished finish. We will be publishing further news about these on the 2001 Gold Proof Britannia Sets page of our Tax Free Gold web site.

2001 Two Pound Coin
News and details of the new two pound coin design for 2001, commemorating the centenary of the sending of the first transatlantic telegraph by Marconi.
Released shortly after January 17th 2001 for the Brilliant Uncirculated Specimen, Silver Proof and Gold Proof Version. We have these in stock, including the gold proof.
The Silver Piedfort Proof is expected to be released in about February.

2001 Gold Sovereigns
Available now for immediate delivery.
We correctly predicted that the Royal Mint would continue to issue uncirculated bullion gold sovereigns in 2001 following the demand for the year 2000 sovereigns. Deliveries should begin between January 2nd but we have now received our first shipment direct from the Royal Mint on Saturday 6th January 2001.
We have already had our first repeat order!
Proof sovereigns should be available by early April 2001. As at 21st April, we are expecting delivery within the week.

2001 Gold Half Sovereigns
In stock now and available for immediate delivery.
We correctly predicted that the Royal Mint would continue to issue uncirculated bullion half sovereigns in 2001 following the demand for the year 2000 coins. Deliveries began on January 6th 200, when we received our first shipment direct from the Royal Mint.

Victorian Era Crown
This is a £5 crown in cupro-nickel.
Details about the design of these were only unveiled on January 2nd, it commemorates the centenary of the ending of the Victorian Era. Latest photographs and information.
The brilliant uncirculated specimen version in folder, silver proof and gold proof versions are all now available from stock for immediate delivery.
A philatelic numismatic cover version (PNC) is scheduled for mid June 2001.

Gold Five Pound Brilliant Uncirculated Version
This is scheduled to be available on 10th September 2001.
Gold Britannia Proofs and Sets
Proof Britannia gold coins and sets were originally scheduled for release on 6th August 2001, we believe these will now be delayed until 20th September. There is a new design on all Britannias this year.
Silver Britannias
Similar to the gold Britannia proof sets, these will be delayed until mid October. We correctly predicted there would be new designs this year, and therefore there will also be proof versions of the silver Britannias, in both sets and individual coins.

Pound Coins - Northern Ireland
These bear the Northern Ireland reverse design.
The silver proof version is scheduled for end May 2001. There has been a slight delay in these, but they are now on their way to us as at 6th June 2001.
